Psychological assessment is the initial process of understanding a person's psychological needs. This helps to pinpoint difficulties, explore the potential origins and consider goals for moving forward.
Generally assessment is undertaken over 1-4 sessions. For adult clients, this involves gathering background information about perceived difficulties, historical events and reasons for seeking therapy. For children, this may include parent/carer and young person interviews, psychometric assessments (where required), liaison with school, review of previous reports and letters.
All clients have the option of a written summary following assessment (which is included in the price). This may be a formal report, informal letter, or even a explanatory diagram.
General assessments are not diagnostic but provide a formulation and recommendations for future support.
Assessment of tics and Tourette's is required prior to behavioural intervention unless a previous assessment/ diagnosis has been carried out.
The assessment package includes an in person or video interview with parents/carers, face to face assessment of young person, review of all previous clinical letters and reports including information from school.
Includes assessment letter with diagnosis (where applicable), summary of biopsychosocial impact of tics and recommendations to family, school and other health professionals for supporting the young person.

Following assessment, 1:1 face to face therapy sessions may be offered. These may use the following models or techniques, depending on the needs of the individual:
○ Psychoeducation (for young person or family members)
○ Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT)
○ Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT)
○ Compassion Focused Therapy (CFT)
○ Systemic, couples, family and narrative approaches
○ Solution Focused Therapy
○ Motivational Interviewing
○ Comprehensive Behavioural Intervention for Tics (CBIT)- including habit reversal therapy (HRT) and Exposure and Response Prevention (ERP)
○ Eye Movement Desensitisation and Reprocessing (EMDR)
I offer couples therapy for both parents and those without children. I have a particular interest in supporting couples where neurodiversity is a potential factor (whether this has been diagnosed or not). Couples sessions provide a safe and managed space to explore the past, present and future of the relationship. It can also help build skills for self-awareness, understanding of each others needs, communication, repairing after arguments, and finding joy and connection in the relationship.
I am able to liaise with schools and other teams in order to share information and recommendation for joint-up support.
I can also provide supporting letters to offer additional information and support for DLA applications, EHCP applications, reviews or appeals, and ASD or ADHD assessment referrals. These included a telephone or video consultation and review of previous letters or documentation, as required.
I offer both routine and ad hoc clinical supervision to qualified Clinical and Health Psychologists, both in person in Warrington and online.
My supervision style focuses on balancing problem solving and client-based discussion with personal and theory-practice reflections. I offer an informal, relaxed space to explore your growth as a clinician and consider your career progression.
